We can supply Tape Library systems from Quantum, Tandberg and Spectra. A tape library consists of two or more tape drives and a number of tape slots. The libraries can be desktop or rackmount and have a variety of interfaces. A tape library has a robotic arm which inserts the tapes into spare media slots or drives to perform a backup or archive operation.
Tape drives were developed to provide a way to store large amounts of data off-line. In the early days disk drives were limited in capacity and as such tape provided a perfect medium for storing this data off-line.
Tape drives today have evolved to become the most widely used devices for backup and restore. The multiple types of tape devices and media, can sometimes lead to the wrong product being purchased or specified.
Backup is where information is replicated from the server(s) to the backup media, normally tape. This information is held for a specified period before it is overwritten (typically 30 days). Should a server fail, this information can be restored to the same state as the last backup.
Increasingly today due to the huge capacity and tape drive performance automated tape library systems are being used for Data Archiving. These solutions free up valuable disk space on expensive disk arrays but still allow users access to archived data.
Fortuna supply a variety of tape drives from numerous manufacturers, in addition to this we supply tape autoloaders and tape libraries as well as Backup Software, media and complete Data Storage and Data Archiving solutions.
