LTO Tape Library solutions from Fortuna

This site is dedicated in providing people with the information on LTO tape library solutions from Quantum and Tandberg. LTO Library solutions today using LTO-5 tape drives which offer 1.5TB's native capacity at a native transfer rate of 140MB/s, can provide a huge storage capacity in a tape library, therefore a 40 slot tape library would provide 60TB's of native capacity.

As the only surving tape technology LTO tape have a proven track record and a road map beyond LTO-7.

About tape libraries

The definition of a tape library is that it has two or more tape drives and multiple tape media slots with robotics controlled by backup software to move tape around within the library. Also known as tape silos, tape jukeboxes or tape robots, they were designed to automate the mundane task of manually inserting tapes into standalone tape drives. As disk capacities increased and network speeds improved organisations could then backup to a central tape library, rather than multiple tape drives each with a copy of backup software.

About Ultrium LTO Technology

Ultrium LTO (Linear Tape Open) technology was developed jointly by HP, IBM and Certance (Seagate) now Quantum to provide a clear and viable choice in an increasingly complex array of tape storage options.

Ultrium LTO technology is an "open format" technology, which means that users will have multiple sources of product and media. The "open" nature of LTO technology also provides a means of enabling compatibility between different vendors' offerings.

LTO TapeTape drives were developed to provide a way to store large amounts of data off-line. In the early days disk drives were limited in capacity and as such tape provided a perfect medium for storing this data off-line.

Tape drives today have evolved to become the most widely used devices for backup and restore.

Backup is where information is replicated from the server(s) to the backup media, normally tape. This information is held for a specified period before it is overwritten (typically 30 days). Should a server fail, this information can be restored to the same state as the last backup.

Increasingly today due to the huge capacity and tape drive performance automated tape libraries are being used for Data Archiving. These solutions free up valuable disk space on expensive disk arrays but still allow users access to archived data.

Fortuna supply a variety of tape drives from numerous manufacturers, in addition to this we supply tape autoloaders and tape libraries as well as Backup Software, media and complete Data Storage and Data Archiving solutions.
